New Treatment
We had issues with our old plan/storyboards etc.
So we have came up with a new idea in order to compensate for this.
1 - Core Themes:
Our core theme is to ‘Cease the day’, make the most out of the time he has left. Our idea was ‘My Sisters Keeper’ meets ‘The Bucket List’. The binary oppositions within our teaser trailer are going to be; happy/sad, health/illness. The Logline of our teaser trailer is going to be ‘Family is stronger then anything else
2 – Core Characters
The core characters of our teaser trailer are as follows:
The protagonist – The two siblings would be the protagonist as they have never had their parents to be there for them in the way that other children have, so that they begin to express their emotion with anger and form a strong bond between one and other.
The adversary – This is going to be the adoption. This would be the fact that the two siblings are left to be there for each other and have trouble fitting in with being adopted by the foster parents that they may have to put up with, by being tear aways.
3 – The Three Acts
Act 1 - The set up – Film can start off with the children with the foster parents or alone, either way it wants to show happiness because we can then put a twist on it.
Act 2 – The set back – This would be the fact the children do not wish to have foster parents and will try to do anything to be different to become the tear aways they are.
Act 3 – The Resolution – The resolution would be that they will be together all the time causing problems how ever they could be together still with no problems, and have had a change of heart and agree to keep each other safe, and always be there for one another.
4 – Additional Characters
The additional characters within our film are as follows:
Protagonist – The young boy
Villain – Adoption
Heroin – The prize/reward of family that they have
Father – Foster parents trying to do best for the two siblings, and making them feel comfortable
Helper – Both siblings wish to help each other equally
Mentor – Both siblings will be trying to keep them both positive that theres always something better out there for them.
5 – The Setting
We are going to be having various settings for our teaser trailer due to the fact that he is going to be that they will be wanting to try and have a normal life alone and do not wish to be fostered. Some of the settings are going to include, house, school and maybe out side, these are the settings that we feel should be included, as they do not have alot the places will be set out to be common.
So we have came up with a new idea in order to compensate for this.

Final Decisions
The film title we have selected was 'Mad world' which would be a play on title and will relate to the soundtrack we have chosen, the backing music. The reason we have selected this title because we want to get across how mad the world really is once you've been diagnosed with a serious illness.
Our film decisions have been moving from various different ideas on what would best fit our piece as its going to be a 'Drama' with quite a serious story line which some people would be able to relate to upsetting news because it involves a serious illness.
The soundtrack we would like to have playing throughout the trailer would be, 'mad world' how ever we won't be getting the official song we will only need the piano backing music to the song. Which we can use our own school resources and see if a music student or teacher will help us with this.
The sound effects that we will be needing for our performance will mainly be either hospital sounds this would be a life support machine 'beep'because of the location, how ever we are undecided on any other sound effects because we want to get the recording completed first.
The costumes will vary between different types, we will have a basic outfit that a child would wear, the reason being for the scenes out of hospital, how ever whilst in the hospital there will be a night gown to be worn which will set the mood of the illness, and the sense of innocence to the child for the trailer.
Props

Lighting will change from scene to scene, in the more emotionally happy scenes the lighting will be bright and vibrant to symbolise this, how ever when in the scenes that give a more upsetting sad mood they will be dull with less light, this will then set the mood in the short amount of time allocated for the trailer. If the lighting is successful then we will be able to have a trailer that will be effective in attracting the target audience.

Update
For the past week i have been having a play around with Photoshop and also Sony Vegas.
I have been focusing on getting the Animatic completed and so far it is going pretty well, one bad point in which i could of made the Animatic better for future reference would be to create better images for our storyboard for which would help the Animatic due to the images not being of a high quality / standard but it is going well.
I will be uploading the Animatic to YouTube soon and then upload it to my blog.
Below is a photostrip i put together while messing around in Photoshop.

Weekly Diary Update 2
I have been in the mac suite this afternoon looking at the software that we have got in our grasp.
There have been a few pieces of software that i have been looking at that i think will be beneficial towards our groups teaser trailer of which include:
- Photoshop for some of the design aspects of our project for example the poster / website etc.
- Garage Band for our unique (copyright free) music / sound effects
- Final cut express for the editing of our teaser trailer so we can get some good professional effects and make the most out of the software that we can get our hands on
Besides the fact that i have been having a browse in the mac suite i have been getting the rest of our preparation sorted which included taking photos and uploaded the storyboards to my blog, finishing off the genre analysis and also the completion of the mood board about our genre/teaser trailer idea.

Genre Analysis
Our genre idea is based around a hard hitting, sad film which is known as a 'Drama'. This is a hard type of genre to focus on, but we wanted a challenge. We have to keep the audience engaged at the same time as getting the message of 'Drama' across. Our previous genre was 'Action/Suspense' which was easy as it can consist of anything for as long as it draws the audience in. When we chose this genre (Drama) we wanted to have meaning to the film and for it to be a challenge to us.
I have done some research about the genre 'Drama' and have have came to the conclusion that most of the films have a hard hitting meaning behind them in order to attract the audience, or they can relate to this etc.
Some of the ideas that relate around 'Drama' piece are:
- To have a clear meaning
- Some hidden meanings
- Build suspense
- Sometimes have twists
- Sometimes have cliff hangers
- Have little comedy
- Are generally always serious
- Hard hitting
- Usually have sad events

Mood Board
Here is my completed mood board. I created a mood board originally but it wasn't in colour and didn't have much meaning to it, so i created a new one in Fireworks that i am very pleased with.

Teaser Trailers for the 3 similar films
Here are the 3 teaser trailers for the 3 movies that were mentioned below titled 'Similar Trailers'.
Finding teaser trailers isn't always possible with all films but i have done my best to find the trailers based around the codes and conventions of what a teaser trailer is based around.
My Sisters Keeper:
The Bucket List
The Boy In Striped Pyjamas

My Sisters Keeper:
The Bucket List
The Boy In Striped Pyjamas
Similar Trailers
When it came to similar trailers / genres we came up with a fair few as there are films with similar ideas or with similar concepts / certain parts.
A good example of the teaser trailer that we are doing is 'My Sisters Keeper', this film has a similar concept to what we have came up. 'My Sisters Keeper' is the closest to our idea due to the film being about a young girl (aged 11 years old) who is helping her older sister who was diagnosed with cancer.
The brief storyline of 'My Sisters Keeper' being:
Another example of the teaser trailer that we are doing is 'The Bucket List', this film also has a similar concept to what we have came up with and the main point being that person dies and has a list of events / things that he would like to accomplish before he dies a bit like a '30 before 30' list.
The brief storyline of 'The Bucket List' being:
The third example of a teaser trailer that we are focusing on is 'The Boy In Striped Pyjamas', the idea behind why this is similar to our teaser trailer idea is due to the film being based around a young boy (who is also 8 years of age) going through a hard time within the World War 2.
The brief storyline behind 'The Boy In Striped Pyjamas' being:
Young Bruno lives a wealthy lifestyle in prewar Germany along with his mother, elder sister, and SS Commandant father. The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno befriends another youth, strangely dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel who lives behind an electrified fence. Bruno will soon find out that he is not permitted to befriend his new friend as he is a Jew, and that the neighboring yard is actually a prison camp for Jews awaiting extermination.

'My Sisters Keeper' is the closest to our idea due to the film being about a young girl (aged 11 years old) who is helping her older sister who was diagnosed with cancer.
The brief storyline of 'My Sisters Keeper' being:
In Los Angeles, the eleven year old Anna Fitzgerald seeks the successful lawyer Campbell Alexander trying to hire him to earn medical emancipation from her mother Sara that wants Anna to donate her kidney to her sister. She tells the lawyer the story of her family after the discovery that her older sister Kate has had leukemia; how she was conceived by in vitro fertilization to become a donor; and the medical procedures she has been submitted since she was five years old to donate to her sister. Campbell accepts to work pro bono and the obsessed Sara decides to go to court to force Anna to help her sister.
Corprate billionaire Edward Cole and working class mechanic Carter Chambers have nothing in common except for their terminal illnesses. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to leave it and do all the things they have ever wanted to do before they die according to their bucket list. In the process, both of them heal each other, become unlikely friends, and ultimately find the joy in life.

Our Teaser Trailer Idea
We have gone for a completely different genre from our AS opening due to wanting more of a challenge and to what sort of creations we can come up with (from action to drama). We have also decided to get actors outside of our group in order for us to concentrate on the production of the trailer in more detail rather than trying to do both at the same time.
The basic idea of our teaser trailer is going to be about a young boy who get's diagnosed with cancer at a very late stage therefore not being about to accept treatment as it is too late. This is going to be a dramatic / hard hitting type of teaser trailer. We are going to base it around a 8 year old boy (or similar age). Our teaser trailer will be hard hitting due to it relating to real life events, the statistics for someone who knows someone to have had cancer are quite high, therefore the audience will be drawn to the teaser trailer in more depth.
Due to the genre / idea of the film being hard hitting and that someone dies we have considered the audience to be 12/15 as the younger audience might not understand the concept of the film and due to the content that will be involved.

Technical Code Analysis

The shot used with the image above is a long shot, the fact that i know that this is a long shot is because i can see the subjects whole body as well as the environment.
The angle of which the shot is taken is eye level, this is to be more observent and to act as if we are there.
The reason as to why the shot and angle was chose for this image were to establish a connection with the viewer, i think that because the children seem to be happy and running that this might be of a cheerful moment in the film or that they have just achieved / gained something. The shot is used in order for us to view all the children in one shot as well as for us to view the envrionment that they are in to gain a better understanding of the time that this was set in.

General
In my group i have 3 members:
- Myself (Ryan Fulton)
- Aaron Collins
- Michael Sidwell
Brief:
Our brief is going to be based around the teaser trailer idea in which we will create a teaser trailer as well as a Magazine and a WebPage.
I done a fair bit of research into teaser trailers and i have found out some facts which are:
- A teaser trailer is generally short, 30-60 seconds in length
- They generally come out a few months before the theatrical trailer and before the film is completed
- A teaser trailer doesn't give away the story of the film
- Doesn't include the best parts of the film just a few spoilers to get you interested
- Usually has a voice over of the characters within the film talking as the clips are changed or a voice over in general taking you through the trailer
- In most of the teaser trailers i have watched it has just been a clip of the film rather than telling the story over various clips
